Your library
Have you been to your local library lately? If it’s anything like mine, it’s hard to tell which titles are good books and which ones aren’t so great. Subtle messaging will rarely be displayed on the front cover, especially if it’s subversive to Conservative or Christian values. Yes, many of the older books are fine. But the newer ones may not be familiar and they may have undermining messages for you and your children.
Intentional
As parents, we must be intentional about what we put in front of our children. For that matter, it’s also important what we put in front of our own eyes. We have the advantage of being older and wiser, so what we would recognize as garbage would not always be recognized by someone who is younger and more naive. The problem is, most of us are busy parents with 142 things to do each day. Looking through each book our children want to read may just fall right off the radar. That’s why we here at Mud Hen Mama created The Family Book Club.
Yes, it’s an investment. But it’s an investment that will give back returns far greater than the initial investment that everyone in your family can take advantage of, both now and in the future.
Worry-free titles
As we’ve mentioned before, each book is pre-screened so no inappropriate content will be slipping in. That means you won’t be wasting money on junky books. Even more importantly, you won’t need to worry about secular agendas attempting to disciple your child/ren. Teaching our children what is good, beautiful, and true rather than confusion and idolatry is MHM’s top priority.
An awesome part about FBC
What makes our Family Book Club unique and so incredibly helpful for families is that besides getting great books, we tailor the books we send each month to not ever be duplicates of what you already own. We curate the books to what your family’s interests are and check in with you to be sure the books sound like a good fit!
If you’re a young family, this is perfect! We will help you build a cohesive home library that each subsequent child will be able to benefit from. Shared memories from various books are so special and important to foster! If you have older children, this is still such a benefit! Again, having books you can refer to and reflect on that build character and shared values is foundational. As well as incredibly important.
Time and Money
Who else could use some extra time? I am still on the look out for that life pause button. But alas! I still haven’t found it. However, we’ve created a pseudo life pause button! With the Family Book Club, you won’t have to do endless online searches, or second guess book reviews, or spend time flipping through books at the bookstore. It’s all already done for you! So until we’re able to find that elusive life pause button, you need to consider getting the next best thing in the form of a membership to the Family Book Club!
If you’re still not convinced, realize that besides saving you lots of time, the Family Book Club will also save you money since you won’t be making random book purchases you regret. Plus you’ll get books that are consistent with your values. And with books coming in every month, your family will get so excited as they anticipate your next shipment of books to come in!
What we consume
Just as we are careful about what we put into our bodies with respect to food, we must be careful what we put into our family’s minds with respect to books. What our children read shape who they will become. We can encourage our children to read not only fun books, but books that will help them grow into thoughtful, wise adults that are grounded in Truth.
