We serve a God of order and distinctions

Gray

Living in the gray seems to be a lot of what life is like. Sometimes, it can be so hard to determine what is the best decision to make. Do I agree with this argument or that one? What is the correct theological interpretation of this verse, and how do I apply it? Is this leader speaking truth or is he off?

Why men AND women?

I was listening to Albert Mohler the other day, and he was answering some listener questions. A woman who was going to be teaching a class on sexual identity wanted to know why God created men and women. What an insightful and interesting question! I wasn’t sure how exactly Mohler would answer the question, but I loved where he took it.

He explained that men and women were purposely made different to essentially be complimentary and distinct from one another. #TRUTH! He didn’t just make two of the exact same things to propagate the species. He made them male and female with two different purposes and identities. In fact, God made distinct things throughout His creation. All the animals have males and females. Even many plants have the distinction of males and females. There are similarities, of course, but also clear distinctions.

Want a few more of distinctions God made? Sky and sea. Light and dark. Animals and humans. Christ and the church. Believers and non-believers. So many distinct groups when you stop and think about it.

Sin

But when I thought a little more about this, I realized that when “gray” came into this world, that was when sin entered as well. “Did God really say…?” questions the veracity of God’s Word and His good creation. The gray we struggle with can sometimes reflect confusion of what were clear distinctions in God’s Word. But then sin causes us to question God: “Did God really say…?” Sin muddies the water, and smears it around for good measure.

To be clear, I’m not saying that when we’re confused it’s always a result of our personal sin. But what I am saying is that when we’re confused, it’s more often than not a result of the broken world we live in. It’s not what the LORD intended. And because of this, we must keep going to the LORD to find truth and clarity. He is the plumb line that we can’t live without. He clearly doesn’t “need” us, but we most certainly need Him. And He graciously provides the wisdom we need when we turn to Him and ask (James 1:5). Not always exactly when we want (can I get an Amen?), but in His perfect timing (another Amen!).

Minneapolis

The broken world we live in that smears distinctions was on full display just a few days ago in Minneapolis. A young man was clearly having mental health problems several years ago. And instead of clarifying his thoughts with Truth and Goodness, he was encouraged to take the path of insane confusion. This young man thought that by attempting to embrace being a woman, his questions and fears would all be answered and appeased; that he would somehow be better off.

But we all know that rather than providing clarity, embracing the insane proposition that a man can become a woman is a wicked delusion. It only provided this young man with more and more sin and confusion. This led him to spiral out of control into demonic wickedness. He believed that somehow, obeying the demonic voices in his head to go to the school he attended just a few years earlier was the right thing to do. Then shooting into their place of worship at a time when he knew children would be in attendance would somehow appease the demon of confusion that possessed him.

Guns are not the main problem

It amazes me that somehow, guns are still blamed for this atrocity. In a state that has very strict gun laws, this tragedy still happened. When will we learn that it’s the person holding the gun, not the gun itself, that’s at fault?

Of course, we should restrict guns that are sold to the public that have massive shooting capabilities. But at the end of the day, if someone wants to kill people, they will find a way. The internet is an incredible place to learn how to sew, fix a car, and do a million other things. But that includes building and retrofitting guns for nefarious purposes. Besides, if it’s not a gun, it’s a knife or a homemade bomb or whatever.

No more

This will continue to happen until we say, no more. No more to sitting quietly by and ignoring the confusion that is being propagated by our culture. We not only hurt those that are deluding themselves with lies and deception, we may be hurting innocent children and bystanders that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Compassion should lead us to sharing truth, not hiding it. Just ask Chloe Cole, or any number of detransitioners who now struggle with the consequences of the butchering of their bodies. At 15 Cole had a double mastectomy. She has no idea if she’ll be able to have children one day. What happened to her was criminal.

God is good

The LORD made the world not only good and beautiful, but with clear distinctions. Men are men and women are women. Full stop. LORD Jesus, give us strength to stand firm on this most basic and obvious truth.

If you’d like to read more about sexual identity from a Biblical Worldview, I would highly recommend reading Love Thy Body by Nancy Pearcey or Abigail Shrier’s* book, Irreversible Damage to name just a couple. We have many more books in the MHM bookstore that cover this subject from a Biblical Worldview, so definitely browse our selections!

*note – Abigail Shrier, although not a professing Christian, still provides insights and truth that undeniably come from a Biblical Worldview, whether she intended it or not. All truth is God’s truth).
