There has been so much going on as of late in our country and culture. If it hasn’t been one thing, it’s another. It’s been hard to keep up with the insanity. I know many of us feel as if there’s no point in keeping up. Why bother? It doesn’t change anything and it only causes us to have serious anxiety. And duh! God is in control, so we don’t have to worry! Right?
So here’s my challenge to all of you mamas out there. Yes, it’s hard to keep up with all of the insanity and I don’t believe that we need to be on the up and up with everything. That would be an impossible task. However, we don’t have the luxury of having a fatalistic attitude and telling ourselves we can leave it all in God’s hands. That’s probably a lot of the reason why we find ourselves in the current mess we are in as a nation. The church has been telling itself for far too long: “God is in control, therefore He’ll take care of it.” Well, ultimately yes, that statement is true, but we have also been called to obedience and “have been born for a time such as this” (Esther 4:14). What if Esther had a fatalistic attitude? What if she just said, “You know what? I’d rather not know. Ignorance is bliss!” or, “God will take care of it! I’ll pray and I’m sure it will all be fine.” Praise the LORD for the exemplary courage of Esther who did not shirk her responsibilities, but rather she contended for the Faith.
Do you know what a Mud Hen Mama is? She is similar to Esther, in that she’s a woman who looks for other Mamas out there who hold to biblical convictions, links arms with these ladies, prays, and contends for the faith in creative and bold ways. Together is the only way to do it. The LORD has provided us the eclectic, beautiful, and collective Church to stand firm with. As we keep our focus on Christ, we hold each other up against the strong pushback of the culture. And as most of us know, there is quite a strong pushback. I’m certain many of us recognize, it’s hard enough for us to push back, but what of our children? What of those who are less mature in the faith? What of those who are walking in a difficult time in their lives? What of those who are being bullied or strong-armed by our culture?
We need to equip ourselves with the foundational knowledge of the Word of God as well as to know what we’re up against in the culture. We need to know not just for our sake, but for those who we know to depend on us. The worst thing that we can do is pretend this is all a bad dream and do nothing. We can continue to pick daisies and ignore the heat and weird smell that is behind us. But that won’t take away the fact that the house is on fire. Again, we can’t do this by ourselves. Primarily, we need Jesus. But we also need the body of Believers (i.e. Mud Hen Mamas!) to fight this fire with wisdom, grace, and firm convictions.
This election will be over soon. No matter what happens, the LORD still sits on His throne. We can’t worry too much about it and praise Jesus, we don’t have to. But no matter what happens, what I do know for sure is that life will go on and we still have things we need to do, including holding that line. No matter who will be elected, we’re still going to have to push back against the culture. What exactly are some of those things? The sanctity of life (from womb to tomb); biblical marriage; religious liberty – just to name a few.
I encourage each one of us not to disengage from what is going on around us, but to keep ourselves aware and train up those the LORD has given us responsibility and influence over. We must be innocent as doves, yes, but not naive; and definitely as wise as serpents (Matt 10:16). I pray we can all link arms in Christian unity to the glory of God and for the good of the Body.
We have been called for such a time as this, Mud Hen Mamas! Let’s boldly stand for biblical truth and bring clarity to this culture of confusion.
