When I first saw this book, “God Is Better Than Trucks,” I thought it would be perfect for my younger boys. My 3 year old especially loves trucks, so I thought he would definitely like it. Although I wasn’t sure what to expect, I figured I would still check it out. And I’m so glad I did!
The book is actually an “ABC” book, meaning that the book has 26 kinds of trucks or big machines that are alphabetically organized. The first is ambulance, next is bulldozer, and so on. This, of course, is lost to either of my 3 year old fraternal twins, but my 6 year old son was amazed and thought that was so cool.
Besides the fun “ABC” details that were added to the book, Scripture is quoted for each letter as well. How incredible is that? Just to read each verse over and get our littles familiar with various, applicable Scripture verses is such a great idea!
And to top it off, the repeated line of how God is better than all of these incredible trucks and machines is such an important point. I’m assuming my sons are not unique in how they react to seeing huge pieces of machinery. They are struck with awe at seeing something so big do these incredible things. This is a great way to relate to boys, in particular. And honestly, even girls can appreciate the concepts in the book! My 8 year little girl old loved it, too!
The creations made by the hands of man ARE truly incredible things to behold. But they are nothing next to God. What an important reminder and a great way to make the point in a way that little truck-loving boys can relate to.
So if you have someone who loves all things that “go,” including even Zambonis, definitely get this book! They are guaranteed to love it!
On a side note, this book is a reminder of how important it is that we surround our children with beauty and truth. God is so good! We are blessed to live in a place where we can show our children the fingerprints of God all around them, whether that’s in the blessing of running water or a bluejay’s song. But we must also be faithful to tell them of Who created all that blessing and beauty.
There are so many distractions to draw our children away from the LORD and God’s Truth. The world would rather share their own relative truth, or better stated, their own fleeting and ever changing opinions and desires, then seek out eternal Truth. Therefore, as their parents, we must be diligent to always point to Christ and affirm to our children biblical Truth.
We have been blessed as parents to have these children (or child!) for this specific time. I pray we are all faithful to raise them in a way that honors the LORD and to always point them to God’s Truth.
