Praise God! Roe v. Wade is no more

Our world seems to be unraveling at a breakneck pace. I find that most days, I put my head on my pillow at the end of the day, praying that the LORD hurries it up and just stops the insanity. Surely this has to be the end of the world. I’ve heard grown adults arguing the legitimacy of showing “kink” to children at a Pride Festival. Or who hasn’t heard about Drag Queen story hour in the local library? For goodness sake! It’s the library! If we can’t take our kids there, where can we take them? There just seems to be no hope.

And then the LORD does something unimaginable. He orchestrates the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Of course, many have talked about it. Some were certain that it would happen soon. But to be honest, I remained skeptical at best. Several of the “conservative” judges had handed down opinions that were incredibly disappointing. Would they really have the conviction to stand firm on abortion?

However, the LORD heard the prayer of His people. It took a while. But in His perfect timing, the LORD heard our prayer and acted. Of course, this is just the beginning of the fight to end abortion. But finally! We now get to begin the fight to protect all children, wanted or unwanted. We can have a greater impact on the raging battle to save the lives of the most oppressed and marginalized among us – the unborn.

Whenever I’ve felt hopeless about a situation, the LORD has reminded me that He still sits on His throne. Obviously, we still live in this fallen world. We will always struggle with sin, both in us and around us. But He is sovereign and He is good. And He listens to the prayers of His people. He amazingly stoops down and listens.

I still struggle understanding how my prayers affect how and when the LORD acts. He is sovereign, so it seems a little pointless to pray because He’s going to do what He’s going to do. Right? But I also know that the LORD commands us to pray (1 Chronicles 16:11 and Phil. 4:4-7 to name a few verses). And “the prayer of a righteous man availeth much,” (James 5:16). I may not understand how that all works, but thankfully, I don’t have to. He has told us to pray, and so we should. About everything. The big stuff and the little stuff and everything in between. And definitely about protecting LIFE.

Praise God, the thousands and thousands of prayers said for babies in the womb stirred the LORD’s heart. Again, He hears our prayers. And in His perfect sovereignty and timing, He acts.

I pray His people continue to persevere in their prayers. God is faithful and good. Continue to pray like the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8). Even if it feels like He’s taking much longer than is necessary, His timing is perfect. And His purposes are good. He can be trusted. Glory to God!
